![]() ![]() A series of detailed example of actual firings.A general narrative describing the various exercises and their evolution. The paper is divided into four major sections: Navy "Reports on Gunnery Exercises" series, will attempt to address those deficiencies. ![]() This paper, distilled from the pages of the little known U.S. Though war-gaming is a popular (and sometimes historically useful) research method, few of the algorithms used to estimate the effectiveness of naval gunfire have been based upon official findings, and virtually none have based their conclusions upon the analysis of systematic testing. Even today, those wishing to estimate the combat effectiveness of these weapons systems have been forced to resort to the overanalysis of anecdotal or incomplete evidence, or to base their conclusions upon mere guesswork. GK is the best secondary ship overall but the accuracy of those US secondaries makes them very useful. The wealth of descriptive information on the ships and weapons of the first half of the twentieth century has not been accompanied by a corresponding increase in the quantity of information surrounding the probable effectiveness of those weapons in combat. The Alsace and Jean bart have considerably higher dpm of 800,000+ but pen nothing without IFHE. The German ships have a good armour profile that suits brawling. These ships all have secondary dpm of 500,000 to 540,000. The current advantage over the other german's is a lower shell travel time meaning more shells land on the hull of the enemy ship maximising damage. Grosser Kurfurst will pen all battleship plating with IFHE, if HE pen changes go ahead it will no longer need IFHE and will easily be the best secondary ship. Damage saturation limits the damage very quickly. Tirpitz, Bismarck and FDG 100mm will pen battleship plating with IFHE however, at range the travel time is high and the shots tend to land on superstructure. If you load Manual secs DDs will hate you. Massachusetts and Georgia have excellent accuracy and good fire chance. ![]()
